Binder is made by Achievement Science, Inc. This page covers the Binder website and the Binder app. When a school district signs an agreement with us, that agreement governs the district's data and takes precedence over this page.
Your account
When you start a free trial we collect your email address, your first name, and your timezone (so the app shows your school's day correctly). We use it to run your account and to contact you about Binder. We don't sell it or share it.
If you add a mobile number in Binder to get sign-in codes by text, we use that number only to text you those codes. We don't sell or share your number, or your agreement to receive texts, with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The phone carriers that deliver the texts are the only other parties that handle it. Reply STOP to any Binder text, or remove the number in Settings → Account, and the texts stop.
Student records a teacher adds
Teachers can use Binder on their own, before their school signs on. When you add a class, the names, assignments, grades, scanned student work and notes you enter are stored in your account. Only you, and people you invite, can see them.
We use student records only to provide Binder to you: to run your gradebook, read papers you scan, answer questions from your students and their families if you turn that on, and make the files you print. We don't sell student data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. When Binder sends student work to an AI service, it is to do the task you asked for, such as reading a scanned paper.
Student data is stored in the United States.
Before you add real students, check your district's rules about classroom apps. Some districts and states require a signed agreement first. We sign standard student data privacy agreements; email hello@binderk12.com.
The teacher or school controls these records. A parent or student who wants to see or correct a record should ask the teacher or school. To delete a student or your whole account and every record in it, email us.
Texting with a class
If a teacher turns on texting for a class, a student or parent joins by texting a code the teacher gives them. We store that phone number, the student it is linked to, and the messages, and use them only to answer questions about that class and to send the class messages the person agreed to. The teacher can see every linked number and remove it.
Students text Binder only if they are 13 or older. For younger students, a parent links their own phone instead.
We don't sell or share these numbers, or anyone's agreement to receive texts, with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Reply STOP to stop all texts from that number.
